Mobile platform provider Picsel Technologies has announced an agreement with Korea Telecom Freetel (KTF) to bring multimedia services such as news and magazine content featuring rich interfaces to the mobile devices of KTFs 13.8 million subscribers.
KTF will launch the service on 1 October using Picsels mobile content platform as part of its SHOW initiative The SHOW service will ensure subscribers benefit from a wide range of content that can either be pushed to their handsets overnight, or requested as real-time downloads.
Among the media publications confirmed are globally-recognised brands such as Vogue, The Economist, Esquire and GQ magazine all of which Picsel are virtually bringing to life on mobile in the form of rich, dynamic and interactive content.
Mobiles are no longer devices, they are the global channel of choice for interactive communication, says KTF Vice President Dong Won Lee. Today, with Picsel, we are announcing the arrival of the true user experience. Irrespective of device or screen size, mobile content is 100% accessible and 100% enjoyable.
Picsel CEO Imran Khands adds:
KTF is accelerating growth in the Korean market by recognizing both the power and the flexibility of the mobile channel. In the past, the barrier to creating lucrative business from mobile content has never been the creation of the content but its presentation and delivery. This is no longer the case. We are delighted to be KTFs partners at the launch of this new service.
KTF customers will be able to experience the colour, vibrancy and rich detail of traditional content through Picsels Mobile Content Solution. Picsel will also provide editing tools and its server-based solution, allowing content providers to receive requests from subscribers and process them in real time. The service will support Wireless Internet Platform for Interoperability (WIPI) compliant handsets.
Over the last year, content providers including Associated Press, Informa Telecoms & Media, PriceRunner UK and Yankee Group have worked in partnership with Picsel, using its technology to deliver on-device portals, which present their content with an unprecedented level of quality and user experience to mobile customers.
For carriers, OEMs and brand owners, who wish to create a business in mobile content, says Picsel, its solutions help drive the delivery and uptake of mobile content through a richer user experience, attracting new revenue streams for brands, content owners, handset OEMS and operators alike.
