Kylie Jenner tweet sends Snap stock market value tumbling

Reality TV star Kylie Jenner managed to wipe $1.3bn (£1bn) off of Snaps stock market value last night, after tweeting that she was no longer regularly using the Snapchat messaging app.

Jenner, who boasts 24.5m followers on Twitter, posted “sooo does anyone else not open Snapchat anymore? Or is it just me… ugh this is so sad.” Her tweet is thought to regarding Snapchats new redesign, which has been almost universally decried by its user base, with 1m people having signed a petition demanding that Snap roll back the change.

Following the tweet, Snaps shares dropped almost eight per cent, before closing at six per cent down on Wall Street. The share price is now back near to the $17 price at which the shares were listed when the company first floated on the stock market almost a year ago.

Snap has been facing increased competition, especially from Facebooks Instagram, with the two mirroring many of each others features and advances over the past year. Earlier this month, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel rejected user complaints, saying that they only served to “validate” the redesign.

Jenner, the half-sister of fellow reality star Kim Kardashian, later tweeted a follow-up to her initial tweet, saying “still love you tho snap … my first love”.
