Testing is under way in the US for users to pay to advertise posts to friends who might have missed their big news. It started in New Zealand in May and has gradually been rolled out to more than 20 countries.
A similar service is already available to businesses looking to capiltaise on Facebooks huge social standing. The new option is on offer to people with fewer than 5000 friends and subscribers.
