US ride hailing company Lyft has reached, and surpassed, the 1m rides per day milestone as it continues to slowly but surely eat away at Uber’s industry dominance in the US.
Lyft enjoyed a surge in ridership and bookings in the first quarter of the year in the midst of Uber’s various shortcomings. Now, as Uber battles to get its act together – starting with the departure of CEO Travis Kalanick and Arianna Huffington taking the lead – Lyft is continuing to benefit from all of Uber’s controversies.
In January this year, Lyft set itself a goal of launching in 100 new communities across the US by the end of 2017 – it hit this target in just three months, launching in 160 by the end of June. This made Lyft available in over 360 communities, serving nearly 80 per cent of the US population. Meanwhile, Lyft has enjoyed in excess of 100 per cent year-on-year ride growth for four years straight.
“Since day one, we’ve worked to embed hospitality in everything we do,” said Lyft in a blog post. “As more and more people choose Lyft and we continue to grow, we’ll remain focused on providing the best experience to our passengers and drivers.”
