Macmillan Sees Surge in Mobile Traffic

Cancer charity Macmillan Cancer Support has seen the proportion of overall web traffic hitting its mobile site double in the six months since its dedicated mobile site, created by bemoko, was launched.

In the weeks following the launch of the site, around 10 per cent of Macmillan’s web traffic was accounted for by the mobile site, but according to bemoko, that figure is now close to 20 per cent. One quarter of this mobile traffic is from Tablet devices, with the majority of the remainder coming from smartphones.

bemoko released the stats to coincide with the launch of an updated version of the mobile site, which has been designed to respond to the increasing numbers and diversity of mobile devices used to access Macmillan’s information and services.

The new site offers navigational signposts and faster access to content on the site. And with more people accessing the site via Tablet devices, the experience when browsing the site on Tablets has been improved.

“Using bemoko we have been able to develop a site which tailors its style for different devices,” says Andy Nash, Macmillan’s digital project manager (mobile channel). “This gives us the ability to present information, features and functionality in different ways to different audiences, based on what we know about their devices, features and functional capabilities, and enables the delivery of a much more personalised experience.”
