Mobile community itsmy.com has revealed the results of a survey conducted among 15,000 of its active users worldwide, which it says reveals astonishing details about mobile social networking usage in the US and Europe.
The survey asked participants about how they communicate with their closest friends and family, and about their mobile and PC usage. They were also asked how often they visit itsmy.com, what they liked to do there, and how many pages they looked at on the mobile community site.
95% of respondents in the US, and 96% in the UK, said their mobile was their main means of communication with their friends and family, while 42% of them said they never used a PC web-based social network.
The survey also revealed that the average itsmy.com user is surfing 160 mobile Internet pages per day. Heavy users log in up to 10 times a day with an online time of up to 2.5 hours, to write and check their mail and personal messages, find out where their friends are and what they are doing, or upload the latest pictures and videos to their personal mobile site. 90% of respondents said they would use the mobile Internet even more if they could have reasonably priced flat-rate tariffs, higher network speeds and faster phones with longer battery lives.
Almost 12% of the itsmy.com community members are still in bed when they check their personal messages for the first time, says itsmy.com COO, Sabine Irrgang. A mobile social networking portal is the place where you can reach and will meet people in future.
The worldwide survey was conducted via the mobile Internet among 15,000 active itsmy.com users, aged 16 – 52 years, with all current mobile phone types and from more than 30 different operators, between September and November 2008. You can download the complete survey results here.
