Marmalade Adds Google Play Game Services

Marmalade has added support for the Google Play game services, unveiled last week at Google I/O, to its crossplatform app development tools.

This adds social features to gaming apps, including online leaderboards and achievements – supported initially through Marmalade – as well as social game discovery and multiplayer.

Interestingly, the features are actually crossplatform, available on both iOS and Android, provided the user holds a Google account, though Marmalade only supports Android for now.

“We’re excited to be launching Marmalade’s Google Play game services integration so soon after their release at Google’s I/O conference,” said Marmalade CTO Tim Closs. “I think we’re going to see rapid adoption of Google Play game services from both consumers and developers, and I can’t wait to see how our community makes use of these cool new features.”
