Marriott has launched Xplor, a mobile game which gives players the chance to win Marriott Rewards points to redeem at its hotels.
Created in partnership with Evviva Games, Xplor enables users to create a character avatar, and then tasks them with completing themed mini-games in five virtual cities, New York City, Paris, Beijing, Dubai and São Paulo.
As they complete each city, the user is entered into a draw to win 100,000 points, and anyone who completes the entire game will be entered to win prizes including an airline ticket for a trip around the world as well as Marriott Rewards points.
“Social gaming is part of our innovation strategy to engage customers and attract the next generation of social, mobile travellers and employees to Marriott,” said David Rodriguez, executive vice president at Marriott International. “With more than half a billion people playing social games globally, this is an exciting new channel for our company to promote travel and engage with people.”
A game might seem a strange choice for a hotel brand, but its actually not the first developed by Marriott. In 2011, it launched My Marriott Hotel, a virtual kitchen game, which was designed to attract potential employees to careers in hospitality.
