Only 0.7 per cent of Android users have the latest version of the OS, 6.0 aka Marshmallow, installed on their device.
Thats according to Googles own figures, based on visits to the Play Store in the week ending 4 January, so should include all those devices people found under the Christmas tree.
The previous version, Lollipop, fares a lot better, with a 32.6 per cent share spread more or less equally between versions 5.0 and 5.1. The most popular version, though, is the one before that: 4.4, aka KitKat, running on 36.1 per cent of devices.
This makes an interesting comparison to Apples figures from earlier this week, which showed that 75 per cent of iPhone and iPads are running iOS 9, and the vast majority of the rest are only narrowly behind with iOS 8.
