A UK start-up has launched the first ever search engine dedicated to delivering mobile-optimised content to the increasing numbers of smartphone searchers. Mazoom.mobi only returns results that link to mobile websites, saving users time and ensuring they dont waste precious data.
Mazoom, with a team of just three people, has already indexed millions of pages and wants to be the biggest and best aggregator of mobile content available to smartphone users.
Users in the UK and US will be able to search based on their location, and look specifically for Android and iOS apps, dependent on handset, as well as having access to a mobile-optimised news search function.
Mazoom’s founders see search as a neglected in the wider mobile market, as brands and agencies focus on app stores and hardware. Google recently tested an icon that appears within search results to identify mobile-friendly content.

“This runs counter to the ideal of the open web, and we believe the founding principles of openness and interlinked content should remain in the mobile era. By building mazoom, we hope to encourage more companies to embrace mobile in the form of websites as well as apps.”
With the roll out of 4G, plus increasing numbers of free wi-fi options for consumers on-the-go, any retailers without a mobile-friendly site should be fishing out the number of that dev house…
