MDA Appoints Three to its Board

The Mobile Data Association (MDA) has made three new appointments to its board for the 2010/12 term.

The new directors are Oscar Jenkins, CEO of Dynmark International, who has been appointed the MDA director responsible for Mobile Marketing; Shawn Brown, head of sales at Dialogue Communications, who has been appointed the director responsible for Regulatory Matters; and Roger Craven, CEO of Vir2, who has been appointed director responsible for Mobile Charity Activities. Steve Reynolds of TBS Enterprise Mobility remains as chairman, with Mike Hawkes of MHInvent and former MDA director of security stepping up to become the new vice chairman.

“These new appointments promise to give us new, in depth areas of expertise to support an already widely knowledgeable board,” says Reynolds. “The 2010/12 term will see the MDA concentrating on activity around mobile planning for the 2012 Olympic Games and improving process and access to charity text messaging donations. We will also remain closely involved with PhonepayPlus and ongoing consultations towards their next Code Of Practice, representing the interests of our members.”

Roger Craven founded Vir2, the UK’s first mobile charity fundraising specialist, in 2005. He has been involved in over 1,000 charity campaigns involving SMS, Bluetooth and other mobile media, and has also lobbied Parliament for HMRC VAT rules to be clarified in relation to SMS donations. Craven has previously worked for RBS, eTribes, Amplefuture, Orange Home and Barclaycard, developing and marketing mobile applications, payment and social networking services.

Oscar Jenkins has been the CEO of Dynmark International since 2002. He has a strong track record of commercialising emerging technologies and building teams. He was involved in a number of the earliest dot.com ventures and founded several successful internet companies, including one of the first UK ISPs.

Shawn Brown is the Head of Sales for Dialogue Communications, a mobile data aggregator, and enjoys a broad perspective on mobile data through experience in VoIP, wi-fi and IPTV technologies. He has  worked with large UK and international organisations including TV companies, car makers, financial services companies and the European Commission.
