Meet Mums Now Triumphs in Rippll appsplash Challenge

Last month, we launched a competition with mobile app developer Rippll that challenged our readers to design the best app, using Rippll’s  appsplash app development tool, that enables any brand or agency to create a mobile app at low cost, without writing any code.

The competition attracted dozens of entries, which were whittled down to a shortlist of three: 24 7 London, which is a directory for points of interest that are open 24 hours a day in London, including bars, pubs, clubs, casinos, restaurants and off licenses; Which Gym, a motivational app showing users that they are never more than a five minute walk from a nearby gym, with maps and user reviews; and Meet Mums Now, which provides a list of child-friendly restaurants, cafes, bars and attractions, initially in London, but with plans to roll out to other cities in the UK. The app even includes an innovative messaging feature for mums to create spontaneous meetups with other app users or new friends from NCT classes. The app was created by Nik Dewar, an advertising sales manager from Surrey, UK.

After much deliberation, the judges – Rippll CEO, Doug Chisholm, and Mobile Marketing editor, David Murphy – decided that Mums Meet had the edge, and so the app benefitted from a free upgrade to the top appsplash price plan, with a week’s access to the Rippll team to help polish the design.

The app went live on the Apple App Store two weeks ago, and has already notched up more than 200 downloads. It has also been featured by Apple as a ‘New & Noteworthy’ app. Nik says he now wants to dig deeper into mobile apps further to explore the potential for the advertising market. The app can be downloaded onto iOS devices for free here.

“We were delighted by the number and standard of entries to the competition,” says Chisholm. There’s a lot of untapped creativity out there; we have designed appsplash to help bring it into the open.”
