Meet the Augmented Reality Stamp

The Royal Mail’s Great British Railway Special Stamp issue will use the Royal Mail channel in Augmented Reality browser junaio to provide online content to users with an iPhone or Android handset.

When the junaio app is launched, the Royal Mail channel selected, and the phones camera pointed at the stamp, the app launches online content on the stamps theme, which for this particular issue sees a recital of the Night Mail poem by Bernard Cribbins. RBIT, working with m2end and the junaio browser, junaio, has created a new way of interacting with the world of stamps on mobile phones.
Royal Mails Special Stamps mark key events and anniversaries in the UKs heritage through a programme which aims to be both educational and informative. junaio offers consumers a new way to access this information.

“This is the first time a national postal service has used this kind of technology on their stamps and were very excited to be bringing intelligent stamps to the nation`s post,” says Philip Parker, the Royal Mails head of stamp strategy. “Through intelligent stamp technology, our stamps will open up a whole new world of information, interest and fun to collectors and the millions of people who will receive them on letters in the coming months.”
