Meteor Plays Safe with Logica

LogicaCMG Telecoms Products has been selected by Meteor Mobile Communications, the Irish mobile operator, to help the company enable the secure use of mobile services for all subscribers. LogicaCMG recently announced the sale of its Telecoms Products business to a consortium of private equity buyers, subject to employee consultation and regulatory approval. Once the transaction closes the Telecoms Products business will trade under the new brand, Acision.
As a member of the Irish Cellular Industry Association (ICIA), Meteor has been instrumental in driving and developing the countrys Code of Practice initiative, designed to protect vulnerable subscribers from accessing unsuitable content.
Meteor is taking steps to help protect its young users from accessing unsuitable mobile content on their handsets, while enabling them to enjoy the advantages of relevant and appropriate content.
LogicaCMGs URL Filtering System will provide Meteors customers better control over the sites that they can access. Part of LogicaCMGs Content Control suite, the system is designed to filter and categorise all URLs being accessed on the network and block according to the users profile.
By blocking access to these URLs, LogicaCMGs system will also neutralise the effect of premium service mobile marketing, as content will not be able to be accessed or downloaded.
“It is commendable that Meteor has taken the positive step to drive this forward in Ireland in order to protect vulnerable subscribers says Adrian Kelly, Senior Vice President for Application and Content Services at LogicaCMG Telecoms Products. With the EU currently considering a similar Code of Practice, Meteor provides the industry with a strong example of how subscriber protection can be introduced with confidence.”
Andrew Kelly, Chief of Policy and Corporate Affairs at Meteor, adds:
“Meteor is committed to ethical corporate citizenship and has taken a number of proactive steps, beginning with content control. With a proven track record of high reliability content control deployments, and as a trusted long-term technology partner, LogicaCMG offered a market-leading and robust content control solution that meets our requirements.”
