Metro Goes Free on the iPad

Free national newspaper Metro has launched a free iPad app. Links on the cover enable users to to jump to the main stories straight away, or browse the newspaper by scrolling through the pages and selecting the most eye-catching content.

Metro worked with digital design agency Fjord and mobile agency Bluestar to create the app, which enables users to swipe between individual headlines and full stories with a single finger, and navigate between the paper’s different sections using a dual-finger swipe.

“We’re really excited to be able to give people the chance to take control of how they read their Metro with the new iPad app,” says Metro digital director, Jamie Walters. “The design suits those eager for the daily headlines as well as leisurely browsers.”

Metro is the UKs only free urban national newspaper, and is the nation’s third most-read newspaper. Over 1.3m copies are distributed every weekday morning across 33 UK cities. These are read by over 3.5m readers.
