Microsoft Beats Estimates but Reports Lower Profits

Microsoft logoMicrosoft has announced revenues of $20.4bn (£12.1bn) and net profits of $5.66bn for the quarter ended 31 March, 2014. The figures compare to revenues of $20.49bn and net profits of $6.06bn in the year-ago quarter.

There was no real detail on mobile-related revenues in the figures, but Microsoft did confirm that it expects to close the acquisition of the Nokia Devices and Services business tomorrow, 25 April.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said the results “demonstrate the strength of our business, as well as the opportunities we see in a mobile-first, cloud-first world.” He said: “We are making good progress in our consumer services like Bing and Office 365 Home, and our commercial customers continue to embrace our cloud solutions. Both position us well for long-term growth.”
