Microsoft cuts 650 jobs in gaming division

Microsoft has announced additional layoffs, impacting 650 employees within its gaming division.

According to IGN, Xbox chief Phil Spencer informed staff in a memo that the redundancies will primarily affect corporate and support sectors.

He added that “no games, devices, or experiences” are being canceled, and no studios are closing.

Spencer explained that the decision is part of “aligning [its] post-acquisition team structure” and “organising [its] business for long term success.”

He further stated: “Separately, as part of running the business, there are some impacts to other teams as they adapt to shifting priorities and manage the lifecycle and performance of games.

“With these changes, our corporate and supporting teams and resources are aligned for sustainable future growth, and can better support our studio teams and business units with programs and resources that can scale to meet their needs.”
