Millennial Media Reports Feature Phone Boost

Mobile ad network Millennial Media has reported a boost in feature phone traffic over the last month.

Samsungs Freedom phone made the list of top 20 phones on the companys network – the first time a feature phone has appeared on the list since May. Feature phones made up 15 per cent of all total impressions on the network.

Samsung grew 7 per cent month-on-month and had six of the top 20 phones, although Apple is still the leading manufacturer for ad impressions on Millennial, with the iPhone topping the list.

The Android OS accounted for 24 per cent of impressions, and powered 14 of the top 20 devices.

Impressions via a wi-fi connection grew 19 per cent month-on-month, accounting for 35 per cent of all impressions. Millennial says that this is down to heavy usage of smartphones and connected devices.

The report also looked at trends among mobile app developers reporting that 40 per cent of app developers cite developing new applications as the primary goal for 2012 – ahead of maximising revenue (21 per cent) and improving discovery (12 per cent).
