Millennial Report Looks at Mobile Games

Games were the top app category on the Millennial Media platform, by ad impression, for the first three quarters of 2012 – and accordingly, theyre the focus of mobile ad firms latest Mobile Mix report.

The top sub-category of games on the platform during Q3, 2012, was Arcade, making up 30 per cent of impressions. The second biggest was Word games (26 per cent), with Puzzle games in third (19 per cent). Lagging behind these are Board games (nine per cent) and Card games (four per cent) – though its worth noting that Arcade games is a fairly loose category, which might explain its dominance.

Smartphones accounted for 74 per cent of mobile game impressions during Q3, with non-phone connected devices making up 23 per cent, and feature phones nearly eliminated, at just three per cent.

On smartphones, Android held a 64 per cent share of impressions from mobile games, with iOS accounting for the majority of the remainder at 30 per cent. BlackBerry accounted for five per cent, and Windows Phone just one per cent.
