Sales on mobile devices exceeded 10 per cent of all online sales for the first time last month. Mobiles share went from 9.98 per cent in September to 10.7 per cent. The figures come from the October report from affilate network, Affiliate Window.
The report notes that this figure has more than doubled from the same time last year. The company says that it expects another record-breaking Christmas, anticipating that 13 per cent of sales will go via the mobile channel. The iPad continues to be the most popular device for making purchases, seeing a 58 per cent share of transactions made to date this year.
13.25 per cent of traffic, including tablets, came through mobile last month – up from 12.79 per cent in September and more than double the figure seen at the same time in 2011. The peak to date this year came in August.
Mobile traffic overall is converting at 3.2 per cent – marginally more than last year’s figure – and up from 2.6 per cent in September, although more conversions were made in September 2011 compared to 2012.
Android has increased its share of both traffic and sales over the year compared to iPhone, now standing at 37.65 per cent share of traffic and 38.09 per cent of sales, compared to 31.56 per cent and 28.45 per cent respectively at the start of the year.
Affiliate Window notes how important the growth of this OS will be for mCommerce. “It is important that advertisers also optimise for Android rather than simply focussing on Apple devices,” the report said.
Affilate Window tracks the websites of some of the biggest names on the high street, including Gap, House of Fraser and Schuh.
