Mobile Entertainment Revenues Close in on $10bn Box Office

Hollywood LA Los Angeles US Cinema Film MoviesRevenue from mobile entertainment is rapidly catching up to the USs box office for movies.

Mobile entertainment generated total revenues of $9.1bn in the US during 2014, up 38.5 per cent year-on-year, compared to an average annual box office of around $10bn.

Mobile games continue to be the single largest generator of revenue, solely accounting for £5.2bn, or 57 per cent of the market – followed by video (20 per cent) and music (19 per cent). The smallest chunk of revenues came from location-based services (four per cent), including the likes of Foursquare and location-aware dating apps.
