Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks has launched B, a mobile-first digital banking service.
As well as the core iOS and Android app, the B offering is currently comprised of a current account and instant savings account, with more products promised down the line.
The app is the focus, though, and aims to bring 'the service and experience offered by lifestyle apps' to banking. It enables customers to set up multiple savings pots, tag and track specific elements of their spending, and automatically move cash between accounts. B also promises a 'learning' element to tailor the user experience.
The app can also be used by existing Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks customers to view and manage their accounts.
“B represents a challenge to other banks,” said propositions and marketing director Helen Page. “It was clear from our research that people want something a bit different that is more intuitive and that helps them run their lives. Over 10,000 people told us what they wanted from a bank: to take the hassle out of money and make life a bit easier. We listened, learned and took their advice throughout the process to create B – a product designed by customers for customers.”
B isn't a purely digital proposition. Accounts can be set up online, on the phone or in one of Clydesdale and Yorkshire's physical branches, which will also offer ongoing support to B customers.
The service is free to use for the first year, and £2 per month beyond that.
