Mobile Growth Wont Plug £20m Shortfall at William Hill

Despite huge growth in mobile betting, with bets made on mobile growing 115 per cent year-on-year and net revenue up 126 per cent, operating profits across William Hill fell 31 per cent in Q3.
Mobile now accounts for 18 per cent of gaming net revenue – 4 per cent more than in H1 – contributing to net revenue that was up 10 per cent. It also makes up 41 per cent of bets placed on Sportsbook.

The drop in profits is blamed on a run of good luck for punters, one of whom won £2.5m on slot machines, as well as slight falls in retail betting and online Sportsbook margins. The company has said it now faces a £24m shortfall that it isn’t certain can be made up.
