shopkeep app smartphoneUK-based iPad point-of-sale solution Shopkeep has acquired Ambur, a rival POS service currently in use in over 1,500 restaurants around the UK. It is the companys second acquisition this year, following its purchase of Payment Revolution.

Since its launch in the UK market in July, ShopKeep has already achieved a merchant base of over 20,000 users, a testament to its strength and reliability, and following the acquisition of Payment Revolution, the company also began offering customised payment processing as an option to merchants.

Founded by former restauranteurs Ansar Khan and James OLeary, Ambur provides a feature-rich set of options specifically designed for full-service, quick-service and fast casual restaurants, along with bars and food trucks. As part of the acquisition, Khan has joined ShopKeeps business development team, where he will help the company in its continued expansion.

“Ambur provides an excellent point of sale app that was created by a restaurant owner, for restaurant owners,” said Norm Merritt, president and CEO of ShopKeep. “This acquisition allows ShopKeep to further our reach into the restaurant industry and expand our overall market share amongst independent merchants.”

ShopKeep has recently completed a funding round that brought in $60m (£39m), which will be used to power international expansion, and announced partnerships with MasterCard and Heartland aimed at strengthening its ties with existing merchant users.
