Propel London has released its Digital Salary Insights report, analysing the wages of over 5,000 positions in the industry. And according to the report, mobile is the fastest-growing digital talent in demand. The number of new vacancies in mobile has increased from 10 in 2009 to 150, a growth of 1,500 per cent – by comparison, in the digital industry as a whole, the number of new vacancies doubled over the same period.
The average salary of middleweight employees in mobile marketing was £45,000 in 2011, an increase of 18 per cent from £38,125 in 2010. For senior positions, however, the average has dropped five per cent, from £70,000 to £66,429. By comparison, in Online Marketing, the average middleweight salary is £38,242, – both of which have grown steadily over the last three years.
“It’s clear from the talent market that the mobile sector is in rude health: there’s unprecedented demand for talent, coupled with strong salaries at all levels of seniority,” says James Webb, Propels commercial director. “What’s clear to us is that right now there’s a huge opportunity for individuals with desirable raw skills – commercial understanding, appreciation of digital as a whole, and adaptability to cope with the evolving nature of the space – to get into mobile and carve out fantastic careers for themselves.”
For senior positions, the best-paid sector of mobile overall is Product, with an average salary of £85,000. Mobile developers, meanwhile, can expect an average £39,913 – with Mobile UX/Interaction being the best paid category, at £44,468.
