Prime Minister David Cameron is back in the UK following last week’s trade mission to South East Asia, and he was in very good mobile company, with no less than three firms in the mobile marketing space – Somo, Monitise (which owns the Mobile Money Network) and Augmented Reality firm, Blippar – accompanying him on the trip. They were among 55 representatives from various organisations, mainly commercial enterprises, who accompanied the Prime Minster on the trip, at the invitation of UK Trade & Investment (UKTI).
Somo was represented by chief commercial officer Thomas Schulz, who told us: “After a successful UKTI tour last year with our COO, Carl Uminski, and Somo’s increasing presence in the region, we were again asked to help fly the flag for the British tech industry in Asia. We were really pleased to accompany the Prime Minister on what was an incredibly significant mission to boost trade and investment in the UK economy.
“It was great to showcase mobile at such a high profile event and be ambassadors for the industry. It was good to meet other British commercial leaders, especially the tech and digital businesses, including Monitise and blippar. There were networking and ideas sharing opportunities – which gave us the chance to educate other industries about the potential of mobile. We hope to offer further support to UKTI with our enterprise solutions for mobile.”
We have no doubt that Schulz and his mobile marketing peers on the trip were delighted to be invited. Looking at the bigger picture, it’s a fantastic endorsement of the mobile marketing business that the Government, in the shape of UKTI, takes it so seriously. Long may it continue.
