Mobile World Congress Preview

With Mobile World Congress kicking off on Monday, we know a lot of our readers will be heading for Barcelona in search of the next big thing in mobile. So to help you plan your trip, heres a rundown of whos showing what…

Comverse says it will highlight current and future communications capabilities to address emerging consumer lifestyles, showcasing its solutions that enable consumers to use and enjoy the web, regardless of where they are and what device they are using, with services that transcend whats currently available.
These include context-aware services such as traffic and weather updates issued automatically, based on the users location and routine; video clips automatically tagged by location and time stamp, to be shared with a users community of friends; and routing of communication to different terminals using different media types (e.g., text, voice) according to the users availability. For instance, when users switch their phone to silent mode, they automatically will receive text messages, instead of voicemail. Comverse will also demonstrate its established offerings, including Comverse ONE Billing and Active Customer Management; Comverse HUB Mobile Advertising; Enterprise Communications Services; and Comverse HUB Converged Messaging. Genaker, which develops SIP-based applications, will be launching a solution that combines Push-to-Talk technology with real-time location tracking making it easier for companies to  monitor and coordinate remote employees and manage large fleets of vehicles. It will also be launching what it claims are the first rich communication services available to use on any Java device, helping service providers expand their target customer base to include cost-conscious users with standard or pre-paid phones, as well as rugged outdoor users and high-end Smartphone users. Genaker will be in the Spanish Pavilion in the Courtyard on Stand CY11. 

Mobile browser company Opera will unveil its latest innovation for better browsing, Opera Turbo. The browser will be available for business customers on Opera Desktop, Opera Mobile and Opera Devices SDKs (Software Development Kits), Opera Turbo compresses bandwidth consumption. By processing data being sent to a mobile phone or a PC by up to 80%, Opera says that operators will be able to reduce network traffic and save on data transmissions. For device manufacturers, Opera Turbo provides a faster browsing application that can leverage device capabilities and utilize hardware resources more effectively. Opera Turbo offers full support for dynamic Web technologies such as Ajax and Flash. You can see it for yourself in Hall 2, Stand 2B77. 

Garmin-Asus, a co-branded alliance between Garmin and ASUSTeK Computer, will feature the Garmin-Asus nvifone product line, which includes the nvifone M20 and nvifone G60. Both are all-in-one, LBS-centric devices incorporating a phone, mobile web browser and personal navigator.
The M20 runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional with enterprise email, has the navigation capability of a premium Garmin nvi satnav. It comes preloaded with maps and points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, stores, fuel stations and more, for North America, Eastern and Western Europe, or other regions.  Check it out at the co-branded exhibit in Hall 7, Stand 7C37. 

Sagarmatha, which specializes in 1-to-1 marketing using advanced data mining technology, will be demonstrating the Sagarmathas Marketing Technology for Mobile Network Operators (SMART) solution, that enables operators to best match targeted offers to individual subscribers.
The SMART solution was launched after an extensive pilot period, and according to Sagarmatha, since its operational release, Cellcom, a mobile operator based in Israel, has achieved extremely effective results using the system as its only marketing personalization tool. You can see the solution in the Israeli Pavilion in Hall 4.1, Stand 4.1HS01.

Movius Interactive Corporation, which specialises in messaging, collaboration and mobile media solutions, will be unveiling new mass market applications, including visual voicemail solutions that can be deployed with any device and a new suite of presence-based solutions.
Visitors to the companys stand in Hall 1, Stand F20, will be able to experience the applications first hand with live demonstrations of the Visual Communications Suite, including MessageMe Plus, a clientless visual voicemail solution that utilizes either SMS or MMS for delivering voice mail messages to any mobile phone; and Movius Visual Voicemail, a handset client offer that is optimized for the most popular Smartphones.
Movius will also be demonstrating its new suite of Automated Presence applications that optimize communication delivery automatically, based on a users location. These include Automated Find Me, which directs calls to the ideal device; Continuous Call, which automatically transfers a live call between a mobile and fixed line phone and Hands Free Email, which converts email to speech.  

O3SIS will unveil its new carrier and enterprise editions of the Living Communication Suite and the brand new Living Media Suite. O3SIS Living Communication Suite Carrier Edition is designed to deliver a compelling and differentiating end user experience. O3SIS Living Address Book comes with new O3SIS client software (Windows Mobile, Blackberry, iPhone, Symbian and more) – powered by data synchronisation and push technologies. Based on this end-to-end solution, O3SIS will showcase how carriers can unleash the mobile value of networked personal data and an integrated social network syndication solution. O3SIS is in Hall 2, Stand 2D15.

GestureTek Mobile, which specialises in gesture control interfaces for mobile devices, will demonstrate its new mobile optical tracking software, and announce a deal with Sony Ericsson. GestureTeks EyeMobile optical tracking software will be demoed on Sony Ericssons new F305 motion-sensing mobile phone, enabling users to play motion control games and control phone functions with simple tilt, shake, rock or roll movements, and without touching any buttons. A new java-based software upgrade now also allows developers to create motion control games both for handsets both with and without a built-in accelerometer. You can see it in Hall 2.1, Stand C158

On2 Technologies, which specializes in video compression solutions, will demonstrate high-definition mobile video solutions. On2 will unveil new hardware design solutions for mobile and multimedia chip-set manufacturers, demonstrate its latest mobile video software implementations, and preview its cloud transcoding service at its Stand, Hall 1, Stand 1A55,

Keynote Systems, which delivers on-demand mobile and Internet test and measurement solutions will be showcasing its latest testing and monitoring solutions to optimise the mobile performance of operators, service providers, developers, and content owners. The company will also be announcing the availability of monitoring solutions for portals, aggregators and developers as well as solutions that protect operator revenue. Skuku,  which specializes in network-based telephony solutions, will unveil a Windows Mobile v
ersion of its application. In addition to the Mobile Windows application, the company has developed a USB handset and USB stick called Skuku Roaming, which allows customers to place mobile calls and send text messages over Internet connections using their GSM mobile SIM Card, significantly lowering costs. Skuku is exhibiting in Hall 2, Stand 2A124.

Mobile marketing software firm MTag, a spin-off of Abaxia, will be showcasing mobiletag, its embedded software application that enables mobile phones to read 2D barcodes, otherwise known as tags, simply by using the phones camera. When a user shoots or captures a tag, they are automatically redirected to content, information or a service using the operators Internet connection. mobiletags 2D barcode specification has been retained by major European Mobile Operators, including the Orange and Vodafone Groups. In addition, recent partnerships have included a launch with Gillette in Spain, Pages Jaunes (French Yellow Pages) and Universal Music Group in France.
Now, the company is deploying the service and barcode standard with network  operators, brands, agencies and press groups across Europe, notably in the UK, Germany, Italy and Spain. MTag will be in Hall 2, Stand 2G32

Movial will showcase its Internet Experience Suites (Movial IXS) Advanced User Interface with TI OMAP3 Accelerated Graphics on the LiMo stand (Hall 8, Stand B135). With Movial IXS, the company says, web developers and designers can create eye-popping user interfaces that exploit the latest Smartphone, MID (Mobile Internet Device) and netbook form factors to provide new, value-added and differentiated services and superior user experiences. 

Juniper Networks will present its service-enabling network infrastructure for mobile operators. Junipers presence will have the theme, Open Architecture, Secure Experience, to emphasize how mobile operators can innovate new services at scale, while protecting their IP networks against proliferating security threats. This leads to significant operational savings to fuel profitable growth overall, monetizing mobile networks. Juniper is in on the Avenue, Stand AV65.

WeFi will demonstrate how users can access mobile Internet applications via an automatic, one-step wi-fi connection.  The free WeFi software, downloaded unto a mobile device, allows the user a fast and easy PC-like Internet experience, which WeFi says is critical as mobile Internet use continues to increase. The service is also valuable in alleviating traffic away from 3G/4G mobile Internet connections, by leveraging over 15 million recognized wi-fi access points worldwide. WeFi will be in the IMA Pavilion, Hall 4, Level 1.

Movidilo, which specialises in multimedia mobile phone applications, will showcase its new offerings including Movidilo Care, Movidilo Marketing, and Movidilo Search & Fun!  The company says the benefits of its new portfolio lie in its underlying technology platform, which makes it easier to transform complex business processes into intuitive mobile solutions that are easy to deploy for mass adoption.

Actimagine will present the Mobiclip web-to-mobile distribution platform for video content. Mobiclip says its offering is an easy-to-deploy, turnkey, web-based system, which is available on all Smartphones and provides exceptional viewing quality. The web-to-mobile solution is now operational, marketed and accessible to users. Mobiclip will be demonstrating the system in Hall 2, Stand 2C67.

PNY Technologies will showcase its latest range of Mini Flash cards and USB drives dedicated to portable devices such as mobile phones and mini notebooks. The company first launched a Micro SD BTO (Built to Order) solution for the mobile sector back in 2006. Since then, it says it has strived to offer its customers more by partnering with a number of reputed content providers, such as EA Games and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, to provide users with free, pre-loaded or downloadable games, music or movies to complement and enhance its core business offering, Flash memory cards and USB drives. PNY will be in Hall 7, Stand 7C47.

FancyFon will
unveil new functionality within its Mobile Device Lifecycle Management
portfolio, to provide remote mobile support for BlackBerrys, in
addition to the functionality provided by the BlackBerry Enterprise
Server.
FancyFon Mobility Center (FAMOC) is a centralized mobile
device lifecycle management platform that enables customers to control
mobile devices in real-time, over the air. This new addition to FAMOC,
BlackBerry Remote Support, will empower mobile operators and enterprise
customers to operate BlackBerry devices remotely. The tool simplifies
and centralizes the management and maintenance of BlackBerry handsets,

Nortel
will showcase 4G all-IP mobile broadband solutions, including new
carrier applications. Demonstrations will include world firsts in
next-generation video and LTE (Long Term Evolution), new operator VoIP
applications and value-added services that accelerate time-to-revenue.
Nortel
will host a live LTE network that will power the LTE demonstrations of
T-Mobile and LG Electronics, as well as Nortels own. These
demonstrations will show how the speed and capacity of LTE can be used
to enhance video surveillance capabilities, stream hi-def video to
mobile devices, and support interactive mobile applications like
multi-player gaming and video-conferencing.
The company will also
demonstrate how its new Mobile LiveContact service uses remote video
conference capabilities to offer personal videoconferencing on mobile
devices for connecting families and businesses all over the world. New
Mobile LiveContact and Blu-ray disc BD-Live based services will
showcase the benefit of enabling mobile users to use text, call and
video to reach friends and family regardless of what end device they
are on.

Radiocomp
will showcase low-risk LTE radio head technology. The company notes
that LTE technology will provide a much-needed boost to current mobile
broadband speeds, and is expected to reach selected markets by next
year, but that cash constraints in the wake of the financial crisis
make it challenging for OEMs to develop competitive radio network
solutions for all LTE frequency bands. This also means that mobile
operators with non-mainstream frequency bands in the 1.9 or 2.1GHz
range may find it difficult to procure the right equipment.
Radiocomp
says it is overcoming these challenges by offering highly flexible LTE
solutions spanning the LTE band from 700MHz to 2.5GHz, through
innovative broadband RF design and soft configurable radios. See

Software firm ACCESS CO. will be exhibiting its line-up of products for mobile and beyond-PC markets under the theme, Open Up Your World in the Courtyard Area, Stand CY10. The line-up includes ACCESS Linux Platform, an open, flexible, next-generation mobile software platform based on Linux; the Widget solution NetFront Widgets; NetFront Living Connect, the DLNA guideline-compliant middleware for home network equipment; and NetFront Browser for mobile handsets and Internet-enabled devices.
