More consumers use mobiles than computers, says Google

More consumers in the US, UK, Germany, France and Japan use a mobile phone than a computer, according to research from Google.

The Google Mobile Internet and Smartphone Adoption report found a clear consumer shift to smartphones. The UK showed the biggest increase in penetration – 30 per cent of the population owned smartphones at the beginning of 2011, an number which grew to 45 per cent by October.

Completed in partnership with Ipsos, the research was carried out over the total population of the five countries study.
