WPP names China CEO
Patrick Xu has been named as CEO of WPP China, succeeding the departing Bessie Lee on 2 May.
Xu currently serves as CEO of WPP’s GroupM China, and going forward will hold both roles simultaneously, based in Shanghai.
His 20 years of experience also includes stints at Mondelez, Procter & Gamble and Kraft, both in China and the US.
“China is WPP’s third largest market and has traditionally been a strong contributor to WPP’s overall growth. As such, it is important that we have some continuity in our senior management focusing on WPP’s growth agenda in the market,” said group CEO Martin Sorrell.
“Patrick’s role will have a special emphasis on horizontality and ensuring our business is localised and more relevant to Chinese clients, partners and staff.”
WPP has almost 14,000 staff in Greater China, and its companies and associates in the market report annual revenues of $1.6bn (£1.2bn).
Huberman joins Ooyala as CEO
Video monetisation platform Ooyala has appointed Jonathan Huberman as its CEO, responsible for driving the future growth of the business.
Huberman joins from his previous position as CEO of Syncplicity, where he led the company through its acquisition by Axway earlier this year.
He has 30 years of experience, including roles at Tiburon and EMC.
Flint heads up Google agencies in APAC
Google has promoted Joanna Flint to the position of managing director for its agency business in Asia Pacific.
Starting in May, Flint will head up the Zoo, Google’s creative think tank for brands and agencies, as well as its agency teams.
Flint has been Google’s country director for Singapore since 2013, overseeing development of the company’s sales and business development operations in the country. Prior to joining Google, she worked for British Airways, Singapore Airlines and Ogilvy & Mather.
Carey joins Kargo as EVP
Ed Carey has joined mobile ad firm Kargo as executive vice president, US Sales.
Based out of the company’s New York office, Carey will lead the North American sales teams for Kargo’s direct and programmatic business.
He joins from Dun & Bradstreet, where he held the role of global VP, advertising market development, and has also worked for Rubicon Project, Undertone and The New York Times Media Group.
Apadmi names chief strategy officer
App development company Apadmi has appointed Marcus Hadfield as chief strategy officer.
Hadfield is tasked with helping the company expand into full-service mobile services.
Before joining Apadmi, Hadfield spent six years at McCann Manchester, where he was managing partner. He has spent nearly twenty years working in agencies, including MRM Meteorite and Omnicom, working with clients including American Airlines, Costa Coffee, Argos, and Homebase.
DeMarinis joins Qikserve to lead US growth
Don DeMarinis has been named chief commercial officer of Qikserve, a mobile restaurant ordering and payment platform.
DeMarinis has 30 years of experience in the hospitality sector, mostly recently at tech startup Dovetail Solutions and Oracle Hospitality.
He joins Qikserve following a funding round in January, which saw the company raise £2.7m to support growth of its platform in the US. DeMarinis’ responsibilities include driving this growth, including building out the company’s US sales force.
