M&S Mobile Sales Shot Up 70 per cent in Q4

Marks & Spencer has reported a 70 per cent year-on-year growth in mobile sales for Q4, 2012.

As a whole, multi-channel sales rose 22.9 per cent year-on-year – including purchases made on in-store screens and the 2,000 iPads wielded by shop assistants, as well as through its website and app.

M&S attributes this growth to the success of its click-and-collect offering, as well as a general increase in traffic to its website.

The statement says the company is continuing to make good progress in transforming Marks & Spencer from a traditional UK retailer to an international multi-channel retailer.

Its aiming to improve its eCommerce offering going forward, with the introduction of a new web platform – as M&S moves from its current site, which works off the Amazon platform, to its own bespoke platform, due in 2014 – and the opening of an eCommerce distribution centre, its second warehouse focused specifically on online purchases.
