Evolving Systems, which provides software solutions and services to the wireless, wireline and IP carrier market, and secure technologies company Oberthur Technologies, have teamed up to deliver Dynamic SIM Solutions to MTN South Africa. The companies say that Dynamic SIM Allocation will enable MTN to distribute prepaid SIM cards more freely into its retail channels, and significantly enhance its capability to capture market share in this highly competitive market.
Our Dynamic SIM Allocation solution provides carriers with a competitive advantage, says Evolving Systems President and CEO, Thad Dupper. Carriers like MTN South Africa will improve efficiency by limiting allocation of scarce and expensive resources to SIM cards held by active end-users. The solution can also be used to enable prepaid customers to select their mobile phone numbers from a larger pool of numbers, via the handset at the time of first use.
Dynamic SIM Allocation removes the current constraints that mean every prepaid SIM card must be activated in the network, and have a telephone number associated with it, before distribution. MTN will order and distribute generic, un-activated SIM cards. When these SIM cards are put into a mobile phone and the phone is switched on for the first time, the solution automatically takes over the allocation of the required properties, taking into account the subscribers needs and location.
The majority of our customers are prepaid says Fabio Caprin, Supply Chain General Manager for MTN South Africa. Dynamic SIM Allocation will enable us to more effectively manage our prepaid number inventory, support marketing campaigns, and save significant costs that we currently incur by stocking pre-activated prepaid SIM cards.
