Bristol-based creative agency Mubaloo has created an app for the citys Wow! Gorillas project. 

Staged by Bristol Zoo Gardens as it celebrates its 175th anniversary, the Wow! Gorillas project has seen 60 lifesize gorilla sculptures around the city, with each kitted out by local artists. 

Mubaloos apps for Android, presents several features to encourage and enhance participation in the project. The app allow users to see the gorillas locations on a map, and included an augmented reality view of their locations – overlaying the distance and direction of gorillas on the view from the devices camera. 

Users can also take and share pictures of the installations via the app. 

Matt Hatch, MD of Mubaloo, says: “We are thrilled to have been able to develop and donate this Android app to Bristol Zoo for their Wow! Gorillas campaign. We hope the app will enable more people to know about, get involved with and support such a great cause.”

An iPhone app has also been developed, by local zoo supporter Jason Trask, for the Wow! Gorillas project. 

There is also a photo competition running on Facebook, which invites members of the public to upload their best photos of the installation for a chance to win a prize. This is being run by Bristol-based social media company Montage Communications.

“Working with Twitter users and supporters in the blogosphere, we aim to harness the online groundswell of support for Wow! Gorillas to raise awareness of, and secure long term interest in, gorilla conservation,” says Matt Anderson, commercial director at Montage Communications.
