MWC: Nokia Partners with Top Brands to Engage Users

Nokia has announced a series of strategic partnerships with big brands that it hopes will drive development of mobile experiences on Nokia devices.

The Finnish mobile manufacturer has teamed up with Kraft Foods, Red Bull, and Voddler in a bid to encourage the use of Windows Phone as a platform for communicating with consumers.

“Our partners are recognising the opportunities with Nokia to reach all consumers in all markets, and are creating great, differentiated mobile experiences with us. Nokia is working rapidly to provide developers, carriers and partners with a powerful business platform to generate incremental revenue opportunities,” says Marco Argenti, senior vice president on Nokia developer experience and marketplace.

Kraft Foods is partnering with Nokia to accelerate develpoment of mobile experiences across its brands – which include such high-profile (and tasty) brands as Oreo, Cadbury, Milka, Toblerone and Philidelphia Cream Cheese.

“From apps to facial recognition, Kraft Foods has become a recognised leader in mobile innovation,” says a Kraft spokesperson. So were very proud to be the very first food company to partner with Nokia and expand our efforts at a global level. As a food company, our goal is to leverage technology to make consumers lives easier and more delicious. Thats exactly what the Kraft Foods & Nokia Mobile Innovation Lab is about: we will push the envelope of technology to connect with consumers in new ways, beyond just apps.”

The Red Bull partnership aims to bring sports and culture content to Nokia users, by leveraging the Nokia Lumia brand.

Voddler is also teaming up with Nokia to bring its video-on-demand service to Nokia Lumia smartphones. This will involve a Voddler Lumia streaming app, wich will enable movie watching on the handset in European territories.

“Our app combines the inherent communication strength of a mobile device with online videos flexibility to let you and your friends decide when and where to watch,” says Marcus Bäcklund, CEO of Voddler.

Michelin Travel has also partnerted with Nokia, and promises to launch an NFC-enabled app for Symbian which will give users information on Michelins 40,000 rated restaurants. Lumia users will also benefit from a partnership with The Weather Channel, which will bring weather forecasting and interactive features to Nokia handsets.
