Ebury Publishing, a Random House company, has released its My Kitchen Table app, which includes recipes from the chefs featured in the cookbook series of the same name.
The app, created by Tigerspike, is available for iPhone and iPod touch users, and for those using 4th generation devices, features touch-free technology that enables users to flick through step-by-step instructions, without having to touch their device. The app uses the iPhone 4’s front camera, allowing users to wave their hand over the screen to skip to the next page.
The app contains 40 free recipes from Mary Berry, Antonio Carluccio, Rosemary Conley, Ainsley Harriott, Ken Hom, Madhur Jaffrey, Annabel Karmel and Rick Stein. A further seven additional recipe collections containing 40 to 50 recipes each are available to download for £1.99 each.
Once downloaded, the app functions offline, and includes introductions to each recipe from the chef, clear step-by-step cooking guides, and a search function that allows users to search by chef, ingredient, timing, difficulty, cuisine, course, occasion and type of dish. Shopping lists can also be created on the app and emailed, and users can let their friends know what they are cooking via Facebook and Twitter.
“We’re really proud of our My Kitchen Table app,” says Random House multimedia editor, Jon Salt. “Back in the planning stages, we explained to TigerSpike that we wanted to provide our readers with something that took recipe apps to the next level in terms of user experience, content and that delivered the wow factor. We have not been disappointed. Everything about this app makes it easier than ever for our readers to access the recipes they want, when they want, in an intuitive format that also looks great.”
