MyFitnessPal has raised $18m (£11.6m) in its first round of funding since the ad-funded food and exercise diary platform launched back in 2005.
The UK’s number one fitness app boasts 40m registered users worldwide and has a database of more than 3m foods to help users work out how many calories they are consuming. The app is currently number one in the fitness category in four countries on iOS and is top five in a further 15.
The company has said that is will use the funds to hire more people and accelerate its global growth, which has already seen its Android and iOS apps, as well as its community support service translated into multiple languages and units of measurement.
International versions of its iPad apps are also on the way.
