Birmingham venue the NEC has launched a responsively designed site.
“We’ve noticed that far more of our visitors are accessing the NEC website via a growing range of mobile and desktop devices,” said Gail Webb, head of digital at the NEC Group. “It’s therefore important we respond to their needs with a functional and effective website that gives them a consistent experience.”
Browsing on a smartphone, the site is tailored towards the smaller touchscreen with large chunky buttons, with the search function heavily emphasised. The responsive design isnt perfect – some assets look a little squashed, or dont fill the width of the screen – and, because it uses an external seller, buying tickets isnt mobile-optimised. But overall, its a smoothly functional and attractive site.
“In addition to being fully responsive, we’ve employed some successful principles from eCommerce websites, such as applying more relevant search filters for our events, so not only are we making it easier for visitors to connect with us, but we’ve improved the overall navigation and user experience.”
The NEC also rolled out free wi-fi for visitors earlier this year.
