A subscription video-on-demand (SVoD) for arts and culture content has launched in the US, Canada, and the UK following a beta run for six months.
Marquee.TV – created by media tech entrepreneurs who were behind the UK’s BBC iPlayer and the US platform TenduTV – offers users access to dance, opera, music, theatre, and documentary content.
“Watching performances on-demand is a distinct experience from heading to the theatre and is opening up cultural content to an arts-curious generation,” said Marquee.TV co-founder Simon Walker. “We can already see from our beta trial that people are using the platform to search and discover: one of our most-viewed productions is a mind-blowing adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by one of the world’s most talked-about choreographers, Alexander Ekman. Marquee.TV is part of a much bigger content viewing trend that now spans generations and tastes.”
Content on the platform includes footage from Opus Arte, which delivers productions from the Royal Opera House and Glyndebourne, and performances from venues like Sadler’s Wells and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival.
The service is available via native apps on Android and iOS, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire for £8.99 per month in the UK or $8.99 in the US.
