New York’s Daily News has launched a free app with MyCityWay to combine its newspaper coverage with local city guide features.
Along with national and local news coverage, the iOS and Android app enables users to personalise the listings, which include dining, events and place to go, along with the distance to each venue, a map and click-to-call functionality.
Advertisers will be able to geo-target advertising and tailor it to peoples reading habits. The app also has a QR code reader to encourage users to interact with print content and advertising. This is the first time MyCityWay has partnered with a US media organisation.
“The Daily News has just won an award for best mobile website and now we are enhancing our mobile growth with an app that not only delivers our great content, but adds huge value to New Yorkers and to visitors with real-time location-based services and information,” said Daily News president and CEO Bill Holiber. “This also opens up new significant opportunities for advertisers who can help influence people at key decision points.”
Puneet Mehta, co-founder and CEO of MyCityWay, added: “Information consumption is moving from a platform-centric model to a user-centric model. Forward-looking media companies like the Daily News are focused on becoming an active part of their readers daily habits, beyond news, on the always-on mobile devices.”
