New York Gets Mobile Traffic Service

Mobile marketing and application company 3rd Dimension has launched its Mobileyes free mobile traffic advisory service in conjunction with  WNBC-TV in New York City, though data  charges apply to users not on unlimited data plans.
The service will give mobile phone users in and around New York City up-to-the-second traffic information and live video from more than 400 roadside cameras on the areas highways, parkways and city streets. The NBC New York Traffic Cam is designed to help millions of daily commuters plan their drives and avoid gridlock on their mobile devices before leaving home, office or school.
New York was our pilot market and we have been providing commuters in the tri-state area with live traffic on their mobile phones for two years, says 3rd Dimension President, Eric Joseph. However, the re-branded Mobileyes mobile content platform powering WNBCs service will bring an added level of value to drivers and includes some new features like automatic updates and click-to-text advertisements. Joseph adds that full iPhone support is anticipated for early August.
To download the application, users visit www.wnbc.com/tcam or call 1-888-622-8226.  Users enter their mobile phone number to receive a text message with a link, which they click to download the application. Users select roadside cameras from a simple, easy to use menu. Speed keys can also be designated on a mobile device for frequently visited locations.
“This is a valuable offering for our viewers that can truly make a difference in their daily commutes, says  WNBC President and General Manager Tom OBrien. And it offers advertisers a unique opportunity to reach a highly engaged audience.”
The service is compatible with data-enabled phones on the Verizon Wireless, Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile networks, as well as on BlackBerry, Palm Treo and Windows Mobile Smartphones.
