NFC Payment Pilot Goes Live in Hungary

Hungarian mobile wallet provider MobilTárca is launching a six-month NFC mobile payment pilot in the country. Almost 2,000 customers will take part in the pilot, testing the capabilities of the MobilTarca digital wallet. They will put its contactless payment and loyalty point collection and redemption capabilities to the test.

The pilot is being coordinated by the Hungarian Mobile Wallet Association, whose members include Hungarian Telekom, Vodafone Hungary and Telenor Hungary, OTP Bank, MasterCard and the SuperShop loyalty program.
The mobile operators will provide the SIM cards free of charge for the selected candidates. NFC smartphones will also be provided free or for an “exclusively reasonable offer”.

The mobile payments will be powered by MasterCard PayPass debit cards, issued over the air to triallists’ SIM cards by OTP Bank. To pay for goods, consumers simply tap their devices to the terminal. They receive immediate feedback of the transactions, with loyalty points added to the digital wallet.

Anyone interested in taking part in the pilot can register here.
