NFC Sticker Takes Smartcard Award

Convego Air Mobile, the sticker for contactless payment from Giesecke & Devrient (G&D), picked up an award at the recent CIT Golden Card awards for the Most Innovative Payment Card. Organized since 2002 by the Institute for International Research, the Golden Card awards set out to recognize excellence in the smartcard industry. The awards are given in conjunction with the CIT Congress, Spains leading smartcard event, held annually in Madrid, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.
Convego Air Mobile is a sticker which enables the user to pay contactlessly. The sticker contains the full functionality of a credit or debit card. Once the thin and pliable foil has been affixed to a mobile phone or PDA, the device can be used to pay bills at all cash terminals and ticket machines supporting the worldwide contactless MasterCard PayPass standard.
Convego Air Mobile adds an ideal new dimension to credit and debit card services. By affixing the sticker to their cellphone, users can pay small amounts contactlessly, which means they do not have to carry as much cash on them, explains Axel Deininger, Head of the Payments Division at G&D. We expect Convego Air Mobile to speed up the market for contactless payment methods.
The Convego Air Mobile payment sticker measures just 43 x 33mm. The surface of the sticker provides enough space for customer-specific designs and optical personalization by laser engraving.
