Nielsen Launches SDK for Mobile TV Measurement

Nielsen is launching an SDK next month for digital content providers to use in order to better understand content viewing figures on smartphones and tablets.
Using the SDK, broadcasters can now separate different types of content and credit ad views accordingly, counting more linear-style watching towards traditional Nielsen TV viewing figures, with online-only content in its Nielsen Digital Ratings.

By tracking audio watermarks, metadata or other tags, advertisers will be able to target and measure each platform individually. “This unified encoding approach for video enables measurement to follow content across screens and ad models,” Nielsen said in a blog post.

The company is also now working with Facebook and other data providers to understand the demographics of online viewers. Nielsen already revealed that it has teamed up with Twitter to measure TV-related chatter on the social network.
