Channel 4’s ad-funded mobile download feature launches today with Nissan as the advertising launch partner.
The mobile download feature is available on both iOS and Android devices, but new and existing viewers will have to register to access the content, unlike the channel’s streaming service. Programmes will be available for download 30 days after broadcast and viewers have up to seven days to watch the show on their smartphone or tablet before it expires.
The ad deal negotiated by Manning Gottlieb will see Nissans logo appear on all download pages of the 4oD app, with banners integrated into the download queue and download list pages. The car company will also get the first ad slot in each programmes pre-roll videos.
“This is the latest development in our Viewer Engagement strategy to reward our now over 8m and rising registered viewers with exclusive benefits to ensure they get the most out of their Channel 4 experience,” said Sarah Rose, director of commercial and business development at Channel 4. “Our fast growing database also enables us to deliver more innovative and engaging advertising solutions to our commercial partners including enhanced targeted ad packages – and our valuable young, engaged audience.”
Channel 4 outlines a list of supported Android devices for the 4oD app and says that although it can be accessed on non-supported devices it “can’t guarantee the app will work 100 per cent.”
Supported devices are: Google Nexus S, Google Nexus 4, Google Nexus 7, Google Nexus 10, Nexus Galaxy, Samsung Galaxy Note, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4 and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
