Nissan is launching a Star Wars-themed AR experience, ahead of the 15 December release of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, to show-off its vehicle safety technologies.
The AR experience, called ‘See the Unseen’, features digital droids, stormtroopers, and other popular figures from the famous movie franchise. It will provide a way for customers visiting Nissan showrooms across the US to experience the Japanese automaker’s Intelligent Mobility safety and driving assistance-related technologies through visual demonstrations of the unseen technologies.
Technologies on show include ProPilot assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot warning, rear cross traffic alert, and intelligent around view monitor.
“In our collaboration with Lucasfilms Star Wars: The Last Jedi, we have brought Retail Theatre to Nissan showrooms and found exciting ways to engage customers with a new world of technology,” said Jeremy Tucker, vice president of marketing for Nissan North America. “While the competition is focused on Santa Claus and red bows this holiday season, we are filling our dealerships with stormtroopers, VR and the new AR experience, making the Nissan shopping experience much more fun, engaging and educational.”
Inside the US showrooms from December, customers will be able to use an AR device to select either a Nissan Rogue, Maxima, or Titan to dive into the experience. In the experience, characters from Star Wars will appear to take the customer through a visual demonstration of each piece of technology.
“Driver assist technologies can seem like fantasy to consumers and can be intimidating to those who are unfamiliar,” said Tucker. “With the help of the beloved characters from Star Wars and the See the Unseen augmented reality technology, we are able to explain Nissan Intelligent Mobility in a way that is relatable and fun.”
