Nokia Selects Tele Atlas

Tele Atlas, which provides digital map data and dynamic content for navigation and location-based solutions, has been selected by Nokia to provide the current release of digital maps and points of interest (POIs) for its new smart2go  mapping and navigation platform. The current version of the smart2go platform is available today on select Nokia S60 and Windows Mobile 5.0 devices. Carrying the name Nokia Maps, the platform will also be available on other Nokia N-series phones.
Nokias smart2go platform enables mapping and routing in over 150 countries, allowing people to view where they are on a map, search for nearby POIs, and create routes to get them there. The platform contains over 15 million POIs, which can also include branded icons of well-known company names, to help people explore the most interesting sights, restaurants or accommodations around them.
Nokias choice to extend its mapping platform to a fuller range of wireless devices affirms our belief that wireless navigation and map search is emerging as the next wave in digital mapping, says Tele Atlas CEO Alain De Taeye. With  highly-accurate and detailed digital maps and a full set of POIs available anywhere in the world, mobile devices are empowered to help people easily find more of what they want, wherever they are.
For Nokia, Ralph Eric Kunz, VP, Nokia, Multimedia adds:
smart2go gives consumers a free way to explore the world around them, and the map data and POI content that Tele Atlas supplies for the solution helps users find exactly what they are looking for. In addition, the navigable map data used in the smart2go solution makes it easy to convert a broad range of connected mobile devices into full personal navigation devices.
