Nokia Surprises with Android Tablet Launch

nokia_n1_perspectives_-_appFollowing Microsofts abandonment of the brand name, Nokia has surprised the industry by announcing a new Android-driven tablet, the N1, which will be initially launched in China through a partnership with Foxconn.

The tablet was revealed at the Slush conference in Helsinki, where the technology company is based. The tablet features a 7.9-inch screen, aluminium shell and runs on Android Lollipop OS, as well as including the companys predictive Nokia Z Launcher interface.

“We are please to bring the Nokia brand back into consumers hands with the N1 Android tablet, and to help make sophisticated technologies simple,” said Sebastian Nyström, head of products at Nokia Technologies. “The N1 has a delightfully intuitive interface and an industrial design to match it. This is a great product for Nokia fans and everyone who has not found the right Android tablet yet.”

The tablet will be made available in China in Q1 2015 for around $249 (£159) before taxes, and while Nokia plans to release it in other markets, further details or dates have not been announced.
