Nokia Was Considering Moving Lumia Phones to Android

Before it reached a deal with Microsoft, Nokia was reportedly considering moving its Lumia smartphones to Android.

This wasnt just hypothetical, the New York Times reports. According to its sources, a team at Nokia had actually got Android running on a Lumia handset before its discussions with Microsoft began in February.

It was ready to potentially make the move as early as late 2014 – something which must have helped in the negotiation process. This certainly shines a new light on the €5.4bn deal, and potentially Nokias attitude to the 2011 partnership between the two companies which saw the manufacturer agree to exclusively produce Windows Phone smartphones.
