NSPCC Selects paythru for Mobile Donations

Children’s charity the NSPCC has selected mobile payments firm paythru to handle the payments for its mobile fundraising activities.
paythru has developed a mobile site at  https://nspcc.paythru.mobi through which secure donations can be made, either on a one-off basis, or via Direct Debit for monthly donations. The paythru system also enables donors to agree to gift aid tax relief at the time of making the donation, unlike premium SMS that requires supporters to make an additional registration.

Donors to the NSPCC can use any credit or debit card through the paythru system and there are no limits to the amount that can be donated. As the paythru system is Level 1 PCI DSS compliant, it is able to store charity supporters’ details, so future donations can be made without the need to re-enter card details. All the supporter has to do is set up a pin and password for future donations.

paythru notes that with 26.5 per cent of the UK population owning a smartphone, and 13.5m people using them to access the internet, mobile payments provides charities with a highly effective donation channel that complements existing phone and web activities. It also allows charities to benefit from impulse donations that are triggered by a TV programme, article or website.

“We have a highly structured process for collecting the donations that are so critical for the work that the NSPCC doesm and the ubiquity of the mobile phone means that it makes a great fund raising channel for us,” says the NSPCC’s Lisa Williams. “paythru’s system makes donating easy and secure for supporters and means that we can give them the choice to donate when and where it is convenient for them.”

paythru’s whitepaper, Fundraising Issues Facing the Charity Sector and why the mobile may be able to help, provides an overview of the benefits of using mobile payments as part of planned fund raising activity. It can be downloaded here.
