Market analyst and strategy firm VisionMobile has published a list of its ‘Top 15 Mobile Software Products’ as part of the latest edition of the ‘VisionMobile 100 Million Club’. The 100 Million Club is a semi-annual watchlist of mobile software products that have been embedded in more than 100m mobile handsets. According to the list, the top 15 mobile software products to have shipped in mobile phones are:
- Nuance: T9/XT9 text input engine – 4.83m shipments
- Mentor Graphics: Nucleus real-time operating system – 2.1m
- Myriad Group: Browser – 2.1m
- ENEA: OSE real-time operating system – 1.7m
- Adobe: Flash/Flash Lite graphics runtime – 1.3m
- Nokia: Series 40 operating system – 1.2m
- Myriad Group: Messaging client messaging middleware – 1m
- Numonyx: Flash Data Integrator file system – 906,000
- Nuance: eZiText/eZiType text input engine – 770,000
- ACCESS: Netfront browser – 755,000
- NXP Software: LifeVibes MxMedia multimedia middleware – 690,000
- Red Bend Software: vRapid Mobile firmware over the air (FOTA) software – 680,000
- Qualcomm: BREW application environment – 610,000
- Aplix: JBlend Java virtual machine – 607,000
- HI CORPORATION: MascotCapsule graphics engine – 575,000
“The 100 Million Club is an important milestone for all mobile software companies to strive for, because it means their product has reached mass-market appeal,” says VisionMobile research director, Andreas Constantinou. “These companies have managed to penetrate the core of the mobile handset industry with software products that have become essential handset components and shipped in volumes many times over much-hyped software, like Google’s Android or Apple’s OSX.”
