Nuance Showcases Mobile Speech Solutions

Speech and imaging solutions company Nuance Communications says it will showcase a range of mobile-oriented speech solutions at next years 3GSM World Congress, demonstrating how Nuance speech technology enriches the mobile experience, delivers tangible advantages to mobile device users, and opens up new revenues for mobile carriers, device manufacturers or content providers. 3GSM, the leading mobile communications conference and exhibition, takes place from 12-15 February in Barcelona. Nuance is exhibiting on stand number 2H48.
A central focus at the event will be Nuance Mobile, an umbrella program, which unites Nuances complete offering for mobile users. This includes speech tools, and components which provide mobile application developers and mobile operators with the ability to enhance their offerings with a seamless speech experience – from advanced speech recognition and dictation to natural text-to-speech that, says Nuance, dramatically enhances usability.
Visitors to the Nuance stand will be able to try handset, navigation and other mobile devices that are embedded with Nuances speech technology, or that can leverage Nuance speech resources located on remote servers.
The Nuance stand will provide an opportunity to see demonstrations of how speech can be used as a natural and effective interface to address a range of typical tasks for the mobile user. For instance, with the latest release of Nuances Mobile Speech Platform, users can speak natural queries to find ringtones, locate the nearest flower shop, search the web, or dictate an SMS or email.
Users can also use speech to access quickly all key functions on the handset, command the MP3 player integrated in the phone, or even have incoming content, such as an SMS, an email or on-screen directions, read back to them using Nuance text-to-speech technology.
Nuances speech technologies are widely deployed in call centres, wireless networks, automobiles and on a variety of mobile navigation or gaming devices. Nuance speech recognition also powers the well-known Dragon  NaturallySpeaking  desktop dictation products.
Well be running an in-depth preview of 3GSM a little closer to the event.
